Pat Boone – There’s a Gold Mine in the Sky / Remember You’re Mine

Pat Boone is a name I know. I could not have told you he was a singer, although I think I would have guessed that or televangelist. My parents both liked rock and roll and the blues, while my father was also into 78 era jazz. Neither cared for this sort of pop music, so here I was: ignorant. But today, this tiny gap in my musical knowledge will be partially bridged.

The B-Side song, There’s a Gold Mine in the Sky, was written by Charles and Nick Kenny was originally sung by Gene Autry and Cowhands for a singing cowboy movie from 1938 called Gold Mine in the Sky. It has a catelogue number of MW-9831. The A-Side, Remember You’re Mine, was written by Bernie Lowe and Kal Mann. It has a catelogue number of MW-9834.

This 45, as a whole, is on the Dot label and has an “Ultra High Fidelity” tagline. The catelogue number is 45-15602 and is protected by ASCAP. Both sides are orchestrated and conducted by Billy Vaughn. The 45 was made in Canada by Quality Records Ltd. in 1957.

Side A
Remember You’re Mine (2:14)

Side B
There’s a Gold Mine in the Sky (2:15)

Its hard to have a lot of thoughts about two songs. Are they good songs? Yes, it makes absolute sense that these two would be picked for a single and it makes sense why Pat Boone was a popular vocalist of the era. I always have a bias towards the familiar when selecting a record to play, and I think these songs put him on the familiar side.

The other main take away I have is that I should try out some singing cowboy movies. The last few years I have tended to watch westerns the first few weeks of the new year, a habit I started in part due to seasonal effective disorder but continue because it was a lot of fun, and this year I hope to find Gold Mine in the Sky somewhere, even if Pat Boone isn’t the singer there.
