I have long considered a song from the last review, Leader of the Pack, to be something of a novelty song, largely incorrectly. Today, I am listening to something that is definitely a novelty song, although a fantastic and catchy one.

This 45 was released under the Kapp label, catelogue number K-342X, in 1960. In the runout there is a stamp reading L-116-7 C1 on the A-side and L-113-7 B3. Both sides credit Brian Hyland, with orchestra directed by John Dixon.

I was today years old when I realised it was polka dot, and not poka dot. Which is about all I can add to any discussion of these songs. I love them both, but their place as novelty songs has kept them around longer than many contemporaries. This sort of light and fluffy bubblegum pop, and its relatives in other decades, is a favourite of mine.

I like this well enough as music that I am pleased to own it, so the joke of owning this and playing it for people is just a wonderful added bonus.
