Pumpkin Wine 1st

I have never made this, I am not responsible in any way if you do. Please read the introduction for more information. This recipe is not dated, but was probably written down in 1977. I have only adjusted formatting for webpage display, it is otherwise exactly how it appears in the notebook.


Ingredients

  • 5 lbs pumpkin
  • 3lbs whole sugar
  • 2 lemons
  • 2 oranges
  • yeast
  • 1 gallon water
  • 1 oz root ginger

Instructions

Grate pumpkin (used mandolin), slice oranges and lemons, bruise ginger and peel them all in jug or crock. Pour over the foiling cuitor(?) and when cool add yeast. Allow to stand for 5 days (covered). Stir frequently, then strain and dissolve the sugar in the liquid. Put in fermentation jar til clear then bottle. (I did not keep extra bottles)
