Pumpkin Wine 2nd

I have never made this, I am not responsible in any way if you do. Please read the introduction for more information. I have only adjusted formatting for webpage display, it is otherwise exactly how it appears in the notebook.

Decenber 12, 1977


  • 10 lb pumpkin
  • 6 lb white sugar
  • 4 lemons
  • 4 oranges
  • 2 oz ginger root
  • 2 gallons water
  • yeast

Grated pumpkin, sliced oranges and lemons, bruised ginger, put in pail and added boiling water. Added 1pkg Flishman yeast and 4 brewer yeast tablet when mash cooled off – started to ferment in about 3 hours

December 19 – Strained off pumpkin pulp, orange and lemon peelings etc. and left to ferment

January 8th – Still fermenting (illegible, looks like “I =”) syphoned off and strained twice through cloth, left to settle. At this point wine tasting yeasty and sour – whirshop(?) as well

January 23rd added a few raisins

February 20th put in fermentation jar with lock.

Bottled in mid April 1978
